Accreditation: Delivering trust in the Security Sector
Whether protecting company data or the welfare of its employees, security is becoming increasingly important for all organisations.
UKAS accreditation ensures that consumers, businesses and their employees, purchasers and regulators can have confidence in the quality and safety of goods, and in the provision of services that impact on employee security, information security, and IT security.
UKAS also supports wider societal security benefits through the accreditation of forensic science, security personnel professionals, and protective clothing.
UKAS accredits testing laboratories to ISO/IEC 17025; General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories which perform services that support a safe environment, from the testing of air and soil quality, to the safety of food and drinking water.
In the security sector, UKAS supports the UK Forensic Science Regulator by accrediting laboratories submitting forensic test results to the criminal justice system. Accreditation also ensures the competence of laboratories providing paternity and DNA testing.
Accredited laboratories also carry out the testing of equipment and clothing, such as life jackets, survival clothing, and protective equipment.
UKAS accredits certification bodies to ISO/IEC 17021; Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems to provide certification in a range of areas that are relevant to the security sector. These include ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (QMS), ISO 27001 Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management systems (BCM), and ISO 28000 Supply Chain Security Management Systems (SCSMS).
UKAS also accredits the certification of Private Security contractors operating either on land or in the maritime environment, the certification of alarm and security system installers, and the certification of individuals working as security professionals.
